Meet our Myotonics
TENNESSEE MOUNTAIN FAINTING GOATS

Now for the story of the Myotonic Goat Breed.
This is a very rare breed of goat once raised for meat but today
bred more for the cute curiosity.  This breed is also called the Tennessee Fainting Goat, the Texas Nervous Goat or the Wooden Leg Goat.  They all share a genetic disorder called Myotonia.
When a goat with this disorder is startled or frightened it's muscles contract and their legs go stiff.  If the goat is caught off balance in the process they fall over and can't get up until their muscles relax.  It doesn't hurt the goat but it makes them very easy to catch!...  This disorder also makes them super friendly and sweet creating a wonderful pet for children. Unlike other goats they don't jump or climb.
These goats have been traced back to a man in Tennessee who brought four goats from Nova Scotia in 1880.  The man later disappeared but left the goats and their offspring inherited  their unusual genetic traits and continued to pass them on...

They are the sweetest gentle little guys and make very sweet pets.
